Just before 11 a.m. today, callers to 911 reported smoke and flames in the 19000 block of SW Brooklawn Place in unincorporated Washington County. When firefighters arrived, the deck and backside of a two-story home was ablaze and fire was spreading into the attic.

Firefighters quickly fought the fire from the outside and searched the home for any trapped residents.

Though the human occupants of the home were away when the fire started, firefighters rescued their two pet cats. The cats were unharmed, though startled by all the commotion.

The home did not have a residential fire sprinkler system, and the residents will be displaced due to smoke and water damage. The cause of the fire remains under investigation. TVF&R was assisted by Washington County Consolidated Communications Agency (911 dispatchers), Hillsboro Fire & Rescue, and Washington County Sheriff’s Office.
